Is your skin oily and makeup just glides off?

We have the solution for you

Is your skin oily and makeup just glides off? Are you tired of powdering your face every hour of every day? Fret not, we have the solution for you, to help you achieve a longer lasting and beautiful makeup result. Doing your makeup if your skin is oily will become easier and quicker once you adopt these tricks.

What is Oily Skin?
Let’s quickly go over the ‘why’ is your skin oily? Oil (or sebum) is naturally occurring in the skin from the sebaceous glands, but some have a higher production than others. Often, people with oily skin tend to have acne, as the over-production of sebum can block the pores, resulting in spots.

If you have oily skin, you might feel like it gets greasy very easily, even after you’ve washed it and especially towards the end of the day. The oil isn’t necessarily bad—even though it can feel annoying at times—but its aim is to protect and moisturise your skin (same goes for your hair if you get greasy hair).
You could also have oily/combination skin, which means some parts of your face are oily and others are normal or dry. The techniques we will mention apply for both skin types, but you might need to adjust them to make them suit you more.

Makeup for oily skin
Let’s focus on the makeup you can use and the way you can apply it to make it last longer and look better.

Mineral makeup is actually perfect for all skin types and conditions and it’s perfect for oily skin as it balances out the sebum and will keep your complexion matte for longer. At Mineralissima, our mineral makeup is very finely milled, so it will never look or feel heavy on your skin. The most common issue is keeping shine at bay, so we will take you through the different products you can use and how to use in your makeup routine.

Skin prep is important!
Preparing your skin for makeup is super important, especially when you have oily skin, as this will aid your makeup application.
In the morning cleanse your skin as you normally would and apply an oil-free moisturiser or a gel cream that won’t feel heavy on the skin. Follow with your sunscreen, perhaps a mattifying sunscreen will be preferable on makeup days, so that it doesn’t add any more oiliness to your face.

Something to remember, If you are acne-prone and slightly scared of oils, there are a variety of non-comedogenic (meaning they won’t block pores) oils that you can try like rosehip, squalane, grapeseed, neem and hempseed oil.

Primer for oily skin
The way you prime and prepare your skin for makeup is very important. In the morning you might want to use a gel moisturiser or an oil-free one that’s more lightweight. You can avoid your T-zone, which is the area over the brows and down to the nose (creating a ‘T’ shape), if you’re particularly oily. After your cream, start with the Mineral Rice Primer.

This primer contains a mix of rice powder and kaolin. Kaolin is a type of clay. Rice is particularly handy in sucking in moisture. Apply with a fluffy brush across your T-zone and around the mouth if you have oily skin. If you have combination skin, apply on the oily parts of your face only.

For the really ultimate shine-fighting, after your day cream has soaked in, pat the t-zone with our oil-absorbing blotting sheets, then apply the Mineral Rice Primer.

The Mineralissima high-quality blotting papers are infused with green tea, which will balance out your skin and remove excess oil. Take one paper and pat it over your T-zone, or other oily areas (like nose, cheeks) you want to mattify. You can repeat this step twice, using a new paper at a time.

If your face is oily, you might be experiencing issues with the lasting power of your eye makeup too. To avoid that, prime your eyelids at this stage, which will help the eye makeup you do stay in place for longer and not crease or transfer. If you have particularly oily eyelids and the primer doesn’t feel like it’s enough, you can also dust a little bit of your foundation over the powder with a small fluffy brush like this one.

Foundation for oily skin

The next step is foundation and you’re in luck as the Mineralissima Mineral foundations are quite mattifying. As with your primer, take your brush and apply first on the parts of your face that tend to get oilier (like forehead, nose, cheeks) and then on the rest of your face. You might want to add a second layer on the T-zone.

Our foundations are buildable and created to feel lightweight on the skin, so you can add more than one layers if you prefer a fuller coverage finish.

Powder for oily skin
If your skin is oily, you will be familiar with the need for a good powder and probably carry one with you at all times!

So, to keep your face and skin matte for longer use the Finishing Powder. Just like our primer, this powder contains a mix of rice powder and kaolin. Both of these ingredients will absorb the oil in your skin, so you can have an oil-free complexion for longer. Take your fluffy brush and apply over your T-zone. You might want to layer this, depending on your skin and how oily it gets.

Depending on your skin tone, you might want to opt for the Oil Control Powder. It’s a finely milled powder that will perfectly suit medium skin tones. Like before, apply with a fluffy brush and layer if you need to.

Makeup touch-ups for oily skin

After you’ve followed all the steps we’ve just taken you through, it might be a good idea to keep another product in your bag for touch-ups during the day.

While you’re out and about, you might feel the need to powder your face when it gets oily. We don’t blame you! But before you do you –pause for a second and use the Blotting Paper first!
You might be wondering how can a piece of blotting paper help me instead of powder? It’s a good question, powder is created to absorb excess oil, but the trick is to use both products (powder and blotting) but start with the blotting papers first.

Once the excess oil has been removed, you can follow with your powder and fluffy brush, and gently dust over the area. We recommend this method because adding powder without using the blotting paper, could result in a heavy finish. However, removing the oil first, will ensure the result is as natural as possible! You can repeat this step multiple times a day, depending on how oily you get during the day (or night). Plus the pack of 50 blotting papers is compact and can easily fit in your pocket or bag, all you need is a mirror. It’s not necessary to powder, you might find blotting will take care of the excess oil.

Following all these steps, you should be able to keep your face looking matte rather than oily. This will also help your makeup last longer, since the oiliness can break down your makeup! Once you start incorporating these steps and products, you will soon discover makeup for oily skin is a lot easier to achieve that you might have thought!
